Hanako Urawa浦和ハナコ
Trinity General School student and member of the Make-Up Work Club
Hanako Urawa is a Trinity General School student in Blue Archive and a member of the Make-Up Work Club, also known as the Supplementary Lessons Department. Her impeccable manners and gentle smile make a striking contrast with the suggestive jokes and deliberately awkward misunderstandings she creates. She is also far more observant than her carefree behavior suggests: when the club’s ordinary school problems become entangled with Trinity’s politics, Hanako often notices what others have missed.
Her role in the Eden Treaty story is shaped as much by that quiet intelligence as by the laughter—and exasperation—she provokes.
Biography
A student who defies expectations
Hanako attends Trinity General School, whose prominent student organizations have their own rivalries and expectations. She is placed in the Make-Up Work Club alongside students who must prepare for special examinations under Sensei’s supervision. Hanako’s graceful speech and impeccable composure might suggest an exemplary student, until she turns an innocent conversation into a mischievous double entendre.
Sensei’s first encounters with the new club are anything but routine. Hanako has been detained by the Justice Task Force after walking around school in a swimsuit. She treats the incident with cheeky good humor rather than embarrassment, a response that sets her apart from the easily flustered, rule-conscious Koharu.
Life in the Make-Up Work Club
With Hifumi Ajitani, Azusa Shirasu, and Koharu Shimoe, Hanako studies, joins a residential training period, and shares everyday duties such as cleaning and laundry. Her jokes keep the others wary, yet the mundane tasks also give the group time to become acquainted outside the pressure of scores and school regulations.
Hanako becomes noticeably more serious when the discussion turns to the club’s unusual rules or Trinity’s leadership. Instead of accepting an official explanation at face value, she asks who set the terms and what those terms might accomplish. The same student who can derail a conversation with a joke is often the first to see why an apparently ordinary school decision deserves closer scrutiny.
Personality and Motivations
Hanako combines exceptionally courteous language with a taste for jokes that sound innocent until the listener notices a second meaning. She often lets Koharu provide the shocked reaction and then acts as though nothing unusual was said. Her playfulness is deliberate rather than the result of social obliviousness.
When the stakes rise, her teasing gives way to careful reasoning. Hanako notices what people omit, tracks the pressures behind official decisions, and challenges convenient explanations. She can also be unusually frank with friends, using pointed questions to get past a comforting answer and reach what someone actually wants.
Her irreverence does not mean indifference. She pays attention to the quieter feelings of her clubmates and comes to value the time they choose to spend together. Those sincere moments sit beside a sharp tongue that can still hurt: Hanako’s ability to read people does not automatically make her every judgment gentle.
Appearance
Hanako’s standard character design features long pastel-pink hair with a side braid and a white flower ornament, green eyes, and a floating pink halo made of curved ring-like shapes. Her Trinity uniform is predominantly white, with blue sailor-style trim, a pink neck ribbon, and a pleated skirt. She also carries a pale-colored assault rifle.
The tidy uniform and gentle colors make her politely impish expressions all the more conspicuous. The game also offers a distinct swimsuit unit with different costume artwork, which should not be mistaken for Hanako’s everyday school uniform.

Abilities
Political and social insight
Hanako notices patterns in Trinity’s factional decisions and can identify when apparently simple school rules are serving a larger purpose. Her analysis matters to the Make-Up Work Club as events become more complicated.
Academic aptitude
Hanako shows a quick grasp of demanding material and is capable of assisting classmates with their studies. Her academic understanding is stronger than her first impression as a remedial student might imply.
Support-oriented gameplay
In her standard playable form, Hanako occupies a Special support role. Her skill set includes area healing and defensive support rather than a primarily offensive frontline role.
Relationships
Hifumi Ajitani
Fellow Make-Up Work Club member
Hifumi helps hold the group together. Hanako teases her, but also works with her when the club has to confront situations far more serious than an examination.
Azusa Shirasu
Fellow Make-Up Work Club member
Hanako observes Azusa carefully and takes her determination seriously. Their discussions reveal how sharply Hanako can read another student’s behavior without dismissing their hopes.
Koharu Shimoe
Fellow Make-Up Work Club member
Koharu, who is associated with Trinity’s Justice Task Force, regularly objects to Hanako’s outrageous jokes. Their contrasting attitudes generate comic exchanges, although they remain classmates facing the same challenges.
Mari Iochi
Friend and Sisterhood contact
Mari is a Sisterhood member who knows Hanako outside the Make-Up Work Club and shows concern for her. Their familiarity suggests that Hanako’s school connections extend beyond her fellow remedial students.
Sensei
Make-Up Work Club adviser
Sensei supervises the club’s studies and takes its students’ welfare seriously. Hanako is capable of playful banter with Sensei but also trusts their commitment when larger disputes threaten the group.
Sakurako Utazumi
Sisterhood leader and acquaintance
Sakurako heads Trinity’s Sisterhood, an organization with which Hanako is acquainted. Their exchanges contrast Sakurako’s institutional seriousness with Hanako’s irreverent, questioning manner.
Interesting facts
Hwansang is credited for both the design and illustration of Hanako’s standard character artwork.
The credit applies to Hanako’s original in-game design; alternate costumes may have different illustration credits.
The in-game description of her rifle, Honest Wish, says that Hanako will not explain the meaning behind its name.
The name invites interpretation, but the weapon description deliberately leaves Hanako’s explanation unstated.
Hanako’s original playable unit has an initial rarity of two stars, while her swimsuit form is a separate character variant.
It distinguishes the original support unit from her separate swimsuit unit without treating them as different characters.

Major story spoilers below.
Why the brilliant student failed
Hanako’s disastrous examination results conceal an exceptional student. In her first year, she earned outstanding marks, even on advanced material, and attracted interest from both the Tea Party and the Sisterhood. At the start of her second year she deliberately began failing. Pressured by the political roles others imagined for her and unable to feel like herself at Trinity, she considered leaving the academy altogether.
In a conversation with Azusa, Hanako describes a gifted student who felt trapped by Trinity’s expectations before making clear that she is talking about herself. She recognizes a similar loneliness in Azusa, who has started to treasure ordinary moments with the club despite the mission that brought her to Trinity. The scene reveals why Hanako’s new friendships have begun to matter more than the attention once paid to her talents.
Reading the danger behind the examinations
The club’s apparently academic problem has a political purpose. Nagisa has placed several suspect students together and arranged examinations that could be used to expel them. Hanako sees the connection between that suspicion, the Tea Party’s fears, and the unusually tight security around the final test site. Her questions and Sisterhood contacts help the group understand why the exams have become dangerous.
Azusa admits her connection to Arius and explains that she intends to prevent an attack on Nagisa. Hanako confronts her with hard questions, then recognizes how dearly Azusa values the life she has found with her classmates. The club resolves to face the crisis and complete its last evaluation together. In the end, Hanako scores 100, Azusa 97, Koharu 91, and Hifumi 94: all four pass.
Choosing to stay and facing the Sisterhood
After the immediate exam crisis, Mari explains that she had asked Hanako to reconsider dropping out in exchange for helping her secure Sakurako’s cooperation. Hanako assures Mari that leaving Trinity is no longer what she wants. When Sakurako seeks Hanako’s further help, Sensei insists that she should be free to decide for herself rather than be pulled into another obligation.
Hanako later speaks with Mika about the events surrounding the Eden Treaty. Her questions show both her understanding of Trinity’s intrigue and the danger of trying to read someone else’s heart too confidently. After one especially cutting exchange, she admits that she went too far and ought to apologize. Even her sharp perception does not spare her from mistakes.
Responsibility during Trinity’s collapse
When violence scatters Trinity’s leadership, Sakurako’s contingency instruction allows Hanako to direct Sisterhood members temporarily, with Mari confirming that authority. Hanako presses for a clear command structure, cooperation among fragmented groups, the evacuation of casualties, and better intelligence. Her position is an emergency delegation, not a permanent appointment as Sisterhood leader.
The worsening crisis forces her to confront the academy politics she had once hoped to escape. In an effort to stop Trinity from declaring war on Gehenna, she cites the rules governing the Tea Party’s authority, only to encounter officers who are already conducting a coup. She cannot resolve the confrontation by argument alone, but her intervention exposes the danger of treating factional suspicion as settled fact.
Helping with the catacombs operation
During the later operation to reach Sensei and Mika, Hanako seeks out Ui Kozeki, whose knowledge of old books helps recover a fragile map of Trinity’s catacombs. She works to find the information others need while members of Trinity’s organizations carry out the rescue. It is a practical contribution: Hanako recognizes where an obscure piece of knowledge can make a difference.
Additional story facts
Hanako scores 2 on the first evaluation, then 4 and 8 on early mock exams. Later results include 69 and repeated perfect scores of 100, including the final evaluation.
The exam record makes the contrast between her chosen failures and her actual academic ability concrete; the mock tests and official evaluations are distinct.
On the final Make-Up Work Club evaluation, Azusa scores 97, Koharu 91, and Hifumi 94 alongside Hanako’s 100.
Their individual results complete the club’s shared struggle with the exam system rather than reducing the outcome to Hanako’s perfect score.
Sisterhood personnel initially challenge Hanako’s right to give orders because she is an outsider, even after Mari confirms Sakurako’s request.
Her temporary command rests on persuasion and urgent coordination, not ordinary rank within the organization.
Spoiler questions
Did Hanako intentionally fail her exams?
Yes. The story explains that Hanako deliberately lowered her marks while trying to distance herself from Trinity and the expectations placed on a gifted student.
Does Hanako decide to leave Trinity?
No. After her experiences with the Make-Up Work Club, she tells Mari that dropping out is no longer her intention.
Does Hanako pass the final Make-Up Work Club examination?
Yes. She scores 100 on the third evaluation, and all four members pass.
Is Hanako the leader of the Sisterhood?
No. Following Sakurako’s emergency instruction, Hanako temporarily coordinates Sisterhood personnel during the crisis, but she does not become its permanent leader.
How does Hanako help in the later Eden Treaty rescue effort?
She seeks out Ui Kozeki to restore information from an old map of the catacombs, allowing the rescuers to proceed with better route information.
