Ghislaine Dedoldia – Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Ghislaine's life with the Boreas family ends abruptly when the Fittoa Region is engulfed by a catastrophic teleportation event. She is separated from Rudeus and Eris and transported to the Conflict Zone on the Central Continent. The disaster leaves her stranded far from home, without knowing what has happened to the people she was supposed to protect.

Her sudden appearance in the dangerous Ejin Forest brings her into contact with mercenaries from the newly established Markien Mercenary Country. Ghislaine helps the soldiers survive and becomes involved in their desperate campaign against the neighboring powers threatening their country. Her intervention contributes to a remarkable military reversal. Unknown to her, these exploits eventually give rise to a legend about a mysterious warrior called the Forest Goddess Laine.

Ghislaine eventually travels back toward Fittoa, but the journey brings devastating discoveries. Philip and Hilda Boreas Greyrat have also been transported into the Conflict Zone and have been killed. Ghislaine finds their remains, buries them, and kills those responsible. Despite her strength, she has arrived too late to save Eris's parents.

Returning to the devastated Fittoa region, Ghislaine helps with the aftermath while waiting for news of Eris and Rudeus. When the two finally return from their journey across the Demon Continent, she learns that they survived. The reunion is overshadowed by news of Eris's family: Philip and Hilda are dead, and Sauros has been executed after being made politically responsible for the disaster. Ghislaine now has to face the destruction of the household that once gave her a home.

After her return to Fittoa, Eris decides that she must become much stronger, particularly after witnessing the overwhelming abilities of the Dragon God Orsted. She leaves Rudeus and sets out for the Sword Sanctum, accompanied by Ghislaine. The journey takes Ghislaine back to the place where she trained and attained the Sword King rank.

At the Sword Sanctum, Eris becomes a pupil of Gal Farion. Her goal is not simply to improve her swordsmanship but to prepare for an opponent whose abilities encompass more than the Sword God Style alone. Ghislaine remains involved in her training, observing her progress and questioning Gal when his methods seem insufficient. Gal's approach eventually incorporates instruction from other swordsmanship traditions, including the North God Style.

During these years, Ghislaine sees Eris grow from a talented but impulsive girl into an increasingly accomplished swordswoman. She remains protective of her former charge, yet Eris's training gradually prepares her to fight alongside experienced warriors rather than depend entirely on their protection.

When Rudeus prepares to confront Orsted, Eris receives news of the danger and leaves the Sword Sanctum, with Ghislaine accompanying her. They arrive to find that Rudeus has already departed to fight the Dragon God. Eris races to the confrontation and intervenes on Rudeus's behalf. Ghislaine helps care for the badly wounded Rudeus as the encounter reaches its conclusion.

Following the confrontation, Rudeus and Eris reconcile and decide to marry. Ghislaine considers her longstanding duty to protect Eris largely fulfilled. With Eris no longer dependent on her as a bodyguard, she turns her attention to Sauros's execution and announces her intention to pursue those responsible.

Rather than encourage her to challenge the powerful Asuran political establishment alone, Rudeus proposes a more practical course. Ghislaine can cooperate with Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura, whose struggle for the throne places her in opposition to some of the same figures. This arrangement offers Ghislaine a way to pursue vengeance while contributing her abilities to a larger political and military effort.

Ghislaine joins the forces supporting Ariel's claim to the throne of the Asura Kingdom. The campaign brings her into conflict with soldiers and skilled swordsmen employed by Ariel's political opponents. Among them are practitioners of the North God Style, whose willingness to use unconventional tactics makes them particularly dangerous to a straightforward offensive fighter.

During an ambush, Ghislaine fights the North King Wii Taa. His polished armor reflects sunlight into her eyes, making it difficult for her to execute her attacks properly. Rudeus intervenes with magic to neutralize the tactic, allowing Ghislaine to press her attack. The encounter demonstrates how a highly skilled opponent can exploit circumstances to interfere with even a Sword King's abilities.

The succession struggle reaches another crisis when Water God Reida Reia intervenes to protect Darius Silva Ganius. Her sword technique threatens everyone within its range, preventing Ghislaine, Eris, Rudeus, and Ariel's allies from acting freely. Orsted's arrival ends the immediate danger when he kills Reida, enabling the others to pursue Darius and his remaining protector.

Darius attempts to escape with the assistance of North Emperor Auber Corvette. Ghislaine, Eris, and Rudeus pursue them, but Auber proves difficult to overcome. His concealed weapons and deceptive movements seriously injure Rudeus and Eris. Ghislaine also wounds Auber, although he initially avoids a decisive defeat by manipulating the distance and timing of their attacks.

Rudeus eventually disrupts Auber with an explosive Stone Cannon attack. Eris takes advantage of the opening and strikes Auber with her Sword of Light, severely damaging his remaining defense. Ghislaine follows with her own flawless Sword of Light, delivering the fatal blow. Fighting together, the former teacher and her student finally defeat the North Emperor.

With Auber dead, Darius is defenseless. Ghislaine approaches the minister and executes him with her sword. His death completes the revenge she has pursued since learning of Sauros's execution. The political conflict has given her the opportunity to confront a powerful figure whose actions had destroyed the benefactor she served.

After Ariel secures the throne, Ghislaine remains in the Asura Kingdom as a royal bodyguard. Her position is no longer tied solely to Eris or to the fate of the Boreas household. She has a continuing role in the protection of the new queen and the royal court, applying the experience she gained during her earlier service and adventures.

Before Ghislaine and Eris fully part ways, the two share a final training encounter. Eris's abilities have advanced enormously since the days when Ghislaine first began teaching her in Roa. Their exchange brings their formal teacher-student relationship to a close without ending the respect and affection that developed over their years together.

Ghislaine later returns to the battlefield during the final struggle against the forces assembled by Geese Nukadia. In the Biheiril Kingdom, she fights alongside Rudeus's allies, including Eris and Ruijerd Superdia. Her experience remains valuable against the powerful enemies participating in the conflict.

The campaign also forces Ghislaine to confront the fate of Geese, one of her companions from Fangs of the Black Wolf. After his defeat, the mortally wounded Geese speaks with several former acquaintances. Ghislaine steps forward and exchanges a brief farewell with him, invoking their deceased comrade Paul. Although Geese fought against Rudeus, his death still marks the loss of someone who shared an important period of Ghislaine's earlier life.

Ghislaine survives the battle. After the conflict ends, she prepares to return to Asura with the other royal knights rather than remaining permanently with Rudeus's household. Her main-story involvement closes with her alive and still carrying responsibilities beyond the adventures that originally brought her into the Greyrat family's life.

In the later Asuran royal service, Ghislaine is counted among the Seven Knights of Asura. Her title is King's Hound, and she belongs to the group responsible for offensive duties. Her position under Queen Ariel is a striking change from her earlier life as an itinerant adventurer who struggled to manage money and survive outside the protection of a party.

Ghislaine also receives a personal story in Mushoku Tensei: Redundant Reincarnation Volume 1. The newly written chapter, titled The Woman Once Called a Mad Dog in English translation, follows her return to the village she left long ago. Rather than concentrating on a new swordsmanship challenge, the story brings her face to face with her difficult past among the Doldia people.

Her return brings renewed contact with her older brother Gyes, whose memories of Ghislaine's childhood remain troubled by the danger she once presented to the village. Ghislaine, however, has become a recognized Sword King and a royal guard. Her homecoming creates an opportunity for the siblings to confront their history and acknowledge how much has changed since her departure.

Ghislaine's established story extends well beyond the revenge she takes for Sauros. She survives the main narrative, continues her duties in Asura, and returns to her ancestral home in the published continuation. Her career as a swordswoman remains central to her identity, but the later material also addresses the family and community from which that career once separated her.
